Changing Wardrobes :

Pattern : Beach Cover ups Aug. 2013 and Kaftan Aug.2018

With summer coming, I thought it was a god idea to combine using my fabric stash and creating something for the beach and hotter weather. Since I have no big holiday plans for this year (especially with the stay home and self-isolation at the moment), but since I do have a wedding in Italy to plan for in the future. I'm being hopeful and keeping myself busy. If nothing else I can plan to do a winter/autumn visit to another hot tub and sit out there in the rain at daft hours of the night with a few good friends.


The beach cover up - left - comes with a pattern that shows obvious options to add contrasting trims and a lot less hemming than the kaftan. Lengthening should be easy. While the fit - for me - is probably not desirable the cut in the neckline would be really nice. This could be lined for comfort on windy days or a towel/fleece like fabric for drying. Making something more cosy. Or bias bound edges could be a method to lean towards if light weight/sheer fabrics would be preferred. It is suggested to use cotton or jersey. Linen might be another idea if you struggle to find certain prints or colours. (Below the beach cover up is on the right). I like that this style covers more of the arm and reduces some bulk from


The kaftan - right - gives me ideal lengths that might be preferred. Another suggested option is to add a trim or use the edges of the fabric. Fabric that are suitable include cotton, silk and linen. But with a cover up and skills could mean lace, sheer fabrics, printed panels and scrap fabric panels or quilts that are made or brought. While this gives a lot of options for colours, combinations and patterns, the width and depth of fabric available might limit some options depending on the size wanted.
For this style, a lot hemming will be involved in this style and also, if wanted, lining. A lot of fabric would be used and be worn on the body.
I would personally go for a a single layer fabric, bias bind the edges - contrasting or similar - at the shorter length. Hem the sides and neck. Turning the bottom edge and applying a trim to it. Lace has been a favourite addition to my projects lately. Often I try to colour match a trim to something in my patterned fabric. Adding a tie at the waist would help me find my preferred fit, when wearing the cover. I'd still have the option to wear it as loose as I'd like.

Now I did have a hand in - so soon I'll be sharing images of my work, afterwards - with the holidays having come and gone. I still have some more to do  and others already completed.
This includes;

Doll - Princess themed and I want to make two dresses and two pairs of shoes to go with her crown.

4 x Crochet Bracelets - for a housemate. Soon to be available through etsy.

2 x Hand warmers, done on a knitting machine with cabling and long in size


This means I have some distractions to my work, but mostly I'm trying to use them as breaks from work. The hardest part is limiting my time on them to make sure my work is done. Amongst other things.

Getting On: Floral Inspirations from Summer and continued work

 

 

These are just a few of the flowers I choose to draw and only a small selection of the photographs I took - at various angles and stages. I choose the flowers for their features rather than colour as the project was summer blues, but had a focus on features, drawing, techniques and materials.

 

 

I just love some of these images and its something I plan on keeping for a very long time, as drawing, image and image manipulation resources.

G.0: Floral Inspirations

WHOOP!

Well, I am very happy I have been getting a lot of attention though I might not be overwhelming yet. I am enjoying, very much. It makes me smile when I look a the overview and page view counts.

WHOOP!

G.0: Monkeys off

 Getting On: Two Monkeys Are Moving On


These two dinosaur sock monkeys are going to two little boys  a friends nephews.

Made in summer 2012, with the buttons added a week before the boys got them. They were made with a set of baby boy socks, for 6 + months, toy stuffing, threads and small buttons.

I love the colours and stripes, one of the most colourful sock monkeys I have made, especially with such small socks. Making them cheerful companions for  young (but older children), for  girls or boys.


I hope they are enjoying their new friends.

1. Water droplets - Beautiful on everything in he right light
2. Spider webs - I hate spiders but the morning drew highlights them beautifully
3. Vintage poster styled shoots - They look utterly amazing, and the style is so good
4. Sunsets and clouds - The tones are great, but its never gone been the same shot twice!
5. SLR black and White - Digital might be easy, but the effects on film are amazing
6. Its even better at night! - A long shutter speed at night- you can map the stars!
7. Floral, close ups - Beautiful and detailed
8. Quirky set ups - They are so much fun to play with
9. Cup cakes - Delicious and mean s you can have your cake still
10. Photoshop editing repeats - Small edits on a repeated image is great!

Photography was the theme because


Next up my lists of m clothes and then later a list of colours. But I'm going to have my watermark and etsy posts up soon I hope you'll like them.

1. My batwing jumper - from my sister, deep blue and knitted
2. Jeans - I would wear them only if I could find the perfect pair
3. Boys checked shirts - yes  wear both women's' and men's' shirts
4. T-shirts - again women's and men's
5. Converse - I love the classic black high tops
6. My cardigans -  will probably wear them till they are in pieces
7. My purple heels, I bought on sale, and they are my favourite shade
8. My bright red, designer coat - asymmetrical, knee length and bought on sale
9. Vintage shirts - Not ancient, and the 5 I have are polyester. 
10. My scarf, I love my light purple silk scarf that's very long, but light

I love my wardrobe, and I have a few pieces which make me feel great, like most people. I have some that are new and others that are older. I know that not everything is perfect for my ' body type', but they are comfortable and loveable for reasons other than making me look great.


As for the next list I will be going with the theme of Photography.

What's in this Autumn/Winter:


From the catwalks plaids and checkered weaves have reappeared to brighten the clothes, and have
been shown  in some very interesting combinations, with some sophisticated styling.  Symmetry isn't an obstacle this year, with many asymmetrical pieces around. The oversize, the trimmed coats, and even the ladies tailored designs all have plaids to play with, from toned down shades to bold colour combinations.

The plaids are featured very strongly n skirts, coats, and jumpers, but have been used all over the wardrobe from shirts, to shoes. However they have come out on top in coats this season making a great statement, and stable piece to have.

Another influence in the catwalks to add instant glamour  is old school womanly charms, using older hourglass styling  and curvy silhouettes to add a lady like look and simple sophistication to a lot of collections Making sure we girls are snug in our coats and dresses, when we are out of those pyjamas this winter. This styling was often combined with a lot of pink, for all those who wish to brighten up the end of the year.

There was also a lot of urban utility fashion, presented. Contrasting the city against the lady this year.

my first list.

1. kitties - I pretty much like all cats, in general. The little and the big. I adore lions, but have had cats when I was little.

5. Etsy! - I love the variety and the unique items
6. Fashion and fabrics!
7. Sewing and creating - there is so much I can do

Well it's not the most exciting news, however tomorrow I will be re-opening my etsy shop, as I now have internet and new products to post. I did a lot of posts a the end of last week as I have had trouble with no internet and also with writing a post.

I am planning some photo-shoot posts, some trend reports and los more product previews. Another idea is a list idea of posting themed lists of 5, 10 or 20 etc. I hope o keep you busy.

With Etsy I have finally got my promised prints ready and  am currently adding 10 prints from my own photography. I want your say on what kin of variety or themes to post.

I have some quirky photos and some of nature and architecture, and others of people. I have unedited and edit versions of most images. All of them will be signed and numbered.

I have a onsie, a hood, , dress patterns, bags, and a shirt patterns.

I think I'll try cutting a dress pattern next to have a closer look at them. I want something fresh and suitable for autumn as well as summer, in case there's o time for anything else, before the next terms holiday.

Lately I have been making bottle cap pin cushions with stuffing and felt I had around.. Combined with embroidery, there is a lot of styles I can make.

Unlike the clothes I want to make, these pin cushions will go on my etsy and facebook pages.

And whilst I'm on Clothing trends for the summer I've found black and white is a trend, with a clashing trend of neon colours, with fewer patterned pieces this year, yet a lot colour blocking.

Here is some more of my photography as yet another preview (no repeats) . Again I won't be increasing size until I can properly watermark them. The theme is waiting, so I've combined the cute above, but I've also combined the ideas of queues being left behind and waiting for something to happen.

 

And below after waiting for the cracks to show - a relationship coming to the end, and it looks like it won't end well. The last post showed a different view and here there are two very different angles, I prefer the 1st view, it looks less like a modelling clay film.

Getting On with my photographic prints for the etsy shop - Animal Revolution.

Here is a sample of some of my work, ranging from the architectural to the quirky to pretty florals.

 

 

 

 

 

I'm sorry its so much a random collection but I wanted to show more variety if anyone interested I'd be happy to post more larger watermarked images with others they were shoot with. To show a more photographs in their collections.

 

These are also all unedited photographs, a digital camera with the ability to change settings, shutter, lens and aperture is more than enough.

 However I love editing and how far it can be taken, I also love black & white images, when done properly and balanced. Though I'm not an expert in Photoshop yet, but the practice is welcome.

C.W : The Onsie

Listed on my Facebook account, a friend and customer. He has made his own onsie before (a Pikachu), but he has had no time this time round, having work and studies to do.

I have made a toadadile onsie for him to go to a Pokémon-themed party.

The body and tail turned out great, but I made a hood/hat that looked a little scary to me. It wasn't meant to be, I will be making more hats with some luck very shortly. Animal themed, rather than Pokémon.

I will be making a block from the pattern he lent me, he doesn't like the pattern paper. So I'll be making a copy in card that he would prefer, and it would make it easier for him to use.

So all that is left - is to use all the spare fleece.

Oh I'm looking forward to a new project

For separating the posts of life from those of fashion and other trends I am giving my posts a title, either G.O or C.W and sometimes both. To say they are about Getting On in life or Changing Wardrobes I know this won't be separating them into official categories but at least if you have no interest in either of the subjects you don't have to read them.


However I hope that separating them you might find something interesting or helpful.

G.O : The market

Well I had a market stall, with my sister's help it went ok. I was almost out of pocket, making only £35, with mixed weather and a broken suitcase - it lost a wheel, somehow, unfortunately I was using it to transport everything, from bracelets, table cloth, key rings, second hand clothing and so on.

I took my sister because she's good at designs, and was a great help with the layouts of products especially since I had a very collective set of items. She was not great at pricing, using very low values on most things, despite the time I had spent on them. Going for £0.50 to £3 on almost everything that wasn't hers. Pricing is hard, but it was hard to agree on good prices.

I have learnt a lot about layout, style and how hard it is to prepare, as well as what sells.

I will be posting the items on my etsy shop, and though I plan on doing a stall next year, only without such a collective set of products, from handmade and second hand to only handmade items.

G.O : The market

Project 2

Again from company this project is to decorate ad customise shoes:

I would like to decorate my own shoes like this, but the would have to be a fairly plain shoe, that I felt needed jazzing up.

However like any other girl I buy what I like. Though I might not always make use of it, a habit I am stopping now rather than later.

The idea of reuse and recycling is very attractive to me at the moment having just emptying old and broken jewellery to be re-purposed.

I think the most likely time to make use of this project will be Halloween and any other upcoming fancy dress parties and events. Unless you want a one off item.

Gold and black is a definite winner. but I love purple if I found some wonderful shoes in a beautiful purple maybe purple velvet - with deep blue decorations could make some very unique shoes.
